(mbc.net - Dubai) The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian agency, fighting hunger worldwide. In 2012, WFP reached more than 97 million people in 80 countries with food assistance, including 25 million children benefiting from its school feeding programme. WFP has been operating in Egypt since 1963 and provides daily date bars to hundreds of thousands of students as well as monthly take-home rations of food such as fortified rice or wheat flour to their families. This assistance serves as an effective incentive for poor parents to send their children to school while improving children’s performance in class. In 2013, more than half-a-million school children and their family members are benefiting from WFP school feeding across the country.
