Cypher is a sci-fi thriller about a nerdy boring man from the suburbs who takes up the dangerous and exciting life of a corporate spy, but ends up getting in too deep to the point of nearly losing his own identity.
The film stars Jeremy Northam as Morgan Sullivan, Lucy Liu as femme fetale Rita Foster, Nigel Bennet as Finster, and Timothy Weber as Callaway. The film is directed by Vincenzo Natali.
In a near future, the ordinary man above any suspicious from the suburb, Morgan Sullivan is hired by Digicorp, a huge corporation, to be assigned as a spy and steal secrets from their competitors, Sunways. Along his training, Morgan is brainwashed, assumes a new identity of Jack Thursby and travels to boring lectures. He suddenly finds himself deeply embroiled in the fast-paced and dangerous world of corporate espionage.
In one of the lectures, he is approached by the beautiful and mysterious Rita Foster, who advises him that nothing is how it seems to be. Morgan acknowledges a new reality, where he does not know who can be trusted and struggles hard to maintain his own identity.
The film picked up five awards, which include a Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film Award, three Fantasporto Awards, and a Catalonian International Film Festival Award.
