Action on the Field & Drama at Home The Game: Football's Biggest Stars and the Women Who Tolerate Them

After a two year hiatus The Game has returned to the small screen.  The program follows the lives of three woman who have either dated, married, divorced or given birth to a football star.  Melanie (Tia Mowry Hardrict of Sister, Sister notoriety) is the lead protagonist, the daughter of a lawyer who chose a football hunk over attending one of America's most prestigious medical schools.  She relocated to California and eventually completed her studies there, but her relationship with Derwin (Pooch Hall), a wide receiver for the fictional San Diego Sabers, fizzled by the close of season one.

Melanie joins Tasha (Wendy Raquel Robinson) and Kelly (Brittany Daniel) after moving west, a wife and mother respectively.  Tasha initially manages her son Malik (Hosea Chanchez), the Sabers' gifted quarterback, though the relationship ends abruptly in season two due to personal differences.  The experience prepared her for a greater endeavor, however: Tasha launched a full-fledged management agency of her own, and in season four begins managing Derwin.  Meanwhile Malik's constant debauchery and alcoholism begins to affect his career, and ultimately leads to his imprisonment.

As the series progresses Derwin and Melanie slowly reconcile; in season three, amidst his ex-girlfriend's pregnancy, Melanie at last forgives Derwin's past transgressions and they tie the knot.  He adores his new son, but by season four Melanie begins to suspect that her husband is not the baby's father, and that its mother is manipulating Derwin's kindheartedness for cash.  Even if Melanie's intuition is correct, a paternity test still may not sever Derwin's profound emotional attachment to the child.

Kelly has moved on since divorcing the Sabers' team captain, Jason (Coby Bell) last season and launched a reality TV series with a striking resemblance to Basketball Wives.  Jason followed in her footsteps after the Sabers sacked him, and hosts a sports talk show alongside NBA star Chris Webber.

In 2009 The Game was canceled by its original network following a programming reshuffle.  Fans of the show were enraged and commenced an internet campaign demanding its return.  Executives from the BET network listened, and relaunched the program with enormous success; the fourth season's ratings were more than double its predecessors' and a fifth season is slated to air this year.
