Her Dreams Are a Murderers Worst Nightmare Medium: A Sixth Season of Supernatural Suspense

What would you do if each night you went to sleep your dreams revealed important evidence regarding a murder? What if your dreams informed you of a crime that was about to occur, and you must convince authorities that your revelations are true, not just a strange hallucination? What if by simply touching another person you could penetrate their soul and unmask their true personas?

What would you do if each night you went to sleep your dreams revealed important evidence regarding a murder? What if your dreams informed you of a crime that was about to occur, and you must convince authorities that your revelations are true, not just a strange hallucination? What if by simply touching another person you could penetrate their soul and unmask their true personas?

The life of Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette) partially answers some of the questions above. Medium focuses on the life of a psychic mother of three children who works for the District Attorney. Early on in the series Allison must struggle to convince her superiors that her gift is real; with time, and with numerous correct predictions, her boss Devalos (Miguel Sandoval) recognizes her supernatural talent. Arquettes character borrows her first and last name from real-life psychic detective Allison DuBois, who has reportedly assisted numerous law enforcement agencies across the United States in solving crimes.

Joe (Jake Weber) is the patriarch of the family, a highly skilled engineer whose specialty is literally rocket science. As the only man in the house he juggles the stresses of work with his wife and daughters extraordinary gift.

In season six's premier Allison reawakens from her coma and slowly regains her psychic and physical abilities -- though not without complications. The detective's first case focuses on a local newscaster's stalker, but the investigation is hindered as she struggles to recover from last season's operation. Meanwhile Ariel (Sofia Vassilieva) is possessed by a slain stripper's spirit, and begins to assist her mother with matriarchal duties.

Later in the season DuBois loses a close friend to cancer, but the psychic's intuition suggests foul play. She continues to struggle with the effects of surgery, occasionally debating whether a vision is genuine or a mental illusion. Allison also becomes obsessed with the well-being of an infant, leading her to kidnap the baby from its mother and father. Ariel begins to familiarize herself with the opposite sex; unfortunately her boyfriend could be a murderer. Bridgette (Maria Lark) has a similar experience while she develops her first crush. Before that, however, she will become entangled in an Internet video scandal.

Medium is unique from other crime dramas in that one can miss a few episodes each season without becoming completely lost -- not that you would want to anyway. While the idea of psychic crime solving may seem to be old hat, Medium puts an interesting spin on the scenario and manages to remain lively throughout each episode. This is no doubt due to its wonderful cast which often includes guest stars such as Kelsey Grammer, David Arquette, Jason Priestley, Molly Ringwald and others too numerous to mention here. With seven seasons under its belt, the program has managed to captivate audiences for half a decade.
