With the boom of the flower power revolution and the machine of the Vietnam war, through a 1960s setting, the producers of ‘Mad Men’ get a second chance to look at the issues, events- and products, which shaped our present as we know it.

From tobacco, to drinking, sexism and counterculture, feminism, adultery, homophobia, and racism- all are depicted through the lives of the characters as opposed to becoming central themes themselves in the advertising agenda of the firm ‘Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce’, SCDP.

As the show’s protagonist ‘Don Draper’ gets a new lease on life by switching dog tags with his dead lieutenant in the Korean War, the show‘s premise is ultimately about identity, and varying and manufactured perceptions of it…
