Greys Anatomy debuted in 2005 and received wide acclaim from audiences and critics alike, winning two Golden Globe awards and dozens of nominations. The medical drama is currently in its sixth season, with at least two more under contract. It has established itself as one of Americas highest rated prime time television series, at times attracting approximately 22 million viewers.

The shows lead character, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) is a surgical resident at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital. The series title is not only derived from Merediths last name, but from a well-known nineteenth century medical book of the same title. Its cast of characters is comprised of medical interns who work under the apprenticeship of established physicians. While the interns mentors are officially there to guide them through their professional activities, their interests inevitably crossover into personal affairs as well, and romantic encounters are a frequent result.

Fans of the first four seasons will not be disappointed; the fifth season packs the same powerful drama and passion as those that preceded it. As always, the cast exhibits exceptional acting ability and rapport.

Season five kicks off with Cristina (Sandra Oh) being stabbed with an unlikely object, while Seattle Grace attempts to improve its performance ranking. Yet another stabbing occurs, this time with Rose (Lauren Stamile) as the attacker and Derek (Patrick Dempsey) as the victim. Meanwhile Derek finds the dairy belonging to Merediths mother, and the contents are unsettling.

On the romance front Lexie (Chyler Leigh) tries desperately to get Georges (T.R. Knight) attention, and Mark (Eric Dane) finally confronts his feelings for her. Lesbian resident Callie (Sara Ramirez) suspects that Sadie (Melissa George) has an unspoken attraction for her, though is hesitant to make the first move. Derek purchases an engagement ring for Meredith, though he must muster up the courage to propose.

The arrival of a death row inmate named William (Eric Stoltz) at the hospital angers Derek, though the prisoner reveals his compassion by offering his organs to a fellow patient. Before that, however, Mark performs a breakthrough procedure that restores speech in a formally mute patient. 70s beauty and star of Three Days of the Condor (1975) and The Towering Inferno (1974) Faye Dunaway makes a guest appearance, depicting a surgeon whose qualifications seem suspect.

Toward the end of the season Mark will attempt to perform a face transplant, while Izzie (Katherine Heigl) continues to hide a secret aliment from the residents. Bailey begins her foray into pediatrics, though she initially fails to realize the emotional stress that accompanies it. Finally, the residents skills are put to the test after a bus accident injures dozens of college students, flooding the ER with victims.

Greys Anatomy is best suited for children 14 and over. Each episode has a running time of 60 minutes.
