Your Misery is Their Profit Dysfunctional Family Finance

The Buffkins are a slightly atypical middle-class family who own and operate a cash advance business. Need this months paycheck two weeks beforehand? The Buffkins will deliver it to you though with the highest percentage of interest allowed by law. Located in the poorest part of town their operation proves highly lucrative, especially since most customers default on their loans.

Herein enters Morgan (Jeff Hephner), the youngest of the clans two sons. Morgan relentlessly debates the morality of loan sharking. Though the family business is a reliable source of income, he yearns for something more meaningful in life. When he is not breaking legs in attempts to collect debts, he submerges himself in existential philosophy a strange mismatch to say the least. A shocking revelation will brighten his hopes however, but also force him to make a tough decision between long-term stability and personal fulfillment.

Morgans older brother, Cooper (Jay R. Ferguson) is the Buffkins resident IT guy. Rather than learn his craft at school, however, he learned the ins and outs of computer networking through viewing porn sites. Subsequently, he has no problem studying while at work, much to the chagrin of others whose computers are regularly infected with raunchy pop ups.

The Buffkins matriarch, Bobette (Laurie Metcalf of Roseanne notoriety), is the glue that holds the family and its business together. Her upbeat demeanor masks the reality of her job, an occupation that depends on the misfortune of others. Mom is a true rags to riches story, whose shrewd business sense enabled the Buffkins ascension from trailer parks to mansions. Meanwhile Roy, the familys patriarch, ensures the shops smooth operation, while his spiritually deprived daughter and secretary, Brandy (Katie Lowes) pecks away at a keyboard.

What ensues is a very unique dramedy whose quirky characters, regardless of the weeks plot, are bound to evoke chuckles. The series jumps off with a special appearance by Judge Reinhold of Beverly Hills Cop and Fast Times at Ridgemont High fame, possibly indicating that many more surprises are in store before the seasons end.
