Beginning in 1912, with the sinking of the RMS Titanic, with Patrick Crawley the heir to Downtown Abbey and his dad aboard, the series begins two years before the Great War, and follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawleys, residents of Downtown Abbey, and their servants, of course.

The Yorkshire country house is the seat of the Earl and Countess of Grantham, with the series set during the rule of King George V. The death of Patrick sets the scene at Downtown Abbey abuzz with their third cousin Matthew becoming the new heir. In the meantime, the two older sisters, Mary and Edith, try to outdo each other in destroying the other…
