Nick Marshall is the stereotypical chauvinistic man who fancies himself as a ladies man and flaunts his charm and repertoire with the ladies at the office.

Nick works as an advertising executive in Chicago, where a prestigious promotion is up for grabs and Nick is sure he is about to land his dream job until his boss, Dan, hires Darcy McGuire, who Dan believes can tap in to the female market.

But as a self-proclaimed expert on women, Nick, is naturally insulted that Dan doubts his know how. Nick tries to get in touch with his feminine side to prove he is better than Darcy but its not until he slips into a bath full of water with a hair dryer does he really get an edge over his new boss.

Nicks little accident blesses him with the ability to hear womens thoughts and soon Nick learns that his female coworkers rather despise him and that during sex, at least one was more concerned with what was on television than the act itself.

Nevertheless, he uses his new insights to improve his game and succeeds in doing so. More importantly, however, he realizes he has an incredible edge over Darcy. Not only can he create marketing ideas from a feminine viewpoint, but he can also steal Darcys before they ever leave her lips.

Inevitably he feels guilty about his thievery, but not before falling in love with his former nemesis. Complications and laughs ensue as he balances his special gift with his love for Darcy, ethics and morality.

The pictures soundtrack features a wide range of appropriate titles, including tracks from jazz songstress Nancy Wilson, Rat Pack members Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr., alongside contemporary artists like Christina Aguilera who provided the highly popular theme, What a Girl Wants.
