When Billy Halleck (Robert John Burke) runs over an old gipsy lady while he was driving distractedly, the police chief and town judge manipulate evidence to issue a ruling of accidental death. The dead gipsy woman's 108-year old father Lempke (Michael Constantine) then curses Billy, the judge and police chief. Billy's curse is 'thinner' as he sees himself fading to nothingness. Yet there is one person Billy feels is just to blame for the death and subsequent cover-up that hasn't been cursed?
Billy calculates that he has two weeks to live at the rate he's losing weight and so solicits the help of a mobster he had just let off the hook in court (Joe Mantegna), to help him find Lempke and the gipsy caravan so the old man can lift the curse. How will Billy place his own curse on the gypsies and how will he convince the old man to lift his curse of 'thinner'?
