In the totalitarian Nation of Panem, where Capitol, the richest district governs the other 12 districts of the nation. Capitol employs an intimidating stratagem to punish the past uprising and ensure the people never rise again; the media holds an annual 'Hunger Games' where two representatives are chosen from every district between the ages of 12 and 18 to enter into a competition to- the-death. When 16 year-old Katniss' younger sister of 12 Primrose is chosen as one of district 12's representatives, Katniss volunteers to take her place.

Based on Suzanne Collins novel bearing the same name, in the past, the people of North America rose in a rebellion. Now it is the Nation of Panem, where Capitol, the richest district governs the 12 poorer districts of the nation. In an intimidating stratagem to punish the past uprising and ensure it is never favored again amongst the people, the media holds an annual 'Hunger Games' where two representatives are chosen from every district between the ages of 12 and 18 to enter into a competition to- the-death between the 24 contestants.  When 16 year-old Katniss' younger sister of 12 Primrose is chosen as one of district 12's representatives, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her place and go to Capitol and train and participate in the games. 

Critics have applauded the movie for both its inspiring themes for teenagers, as well as the arrival of a new heroine- Jennifer Lawrence.
