In the 1970s Richard Roundtree burst onto the big screen as John Shaft, a smooth urban action hero who jumpstarted the Blaxploitation film genre.  Three decades later Shaft's nephew (Samuel L. Jackson), also named John Shaft, follows in his uncle's footsteps as an equally cool and deadly NYC detective.

Shaft is determined to send Walter Wade, Jr.(Christian Bale), a billionaire real estate tycoon's son, to prison for the racially motivated murder of Trey Howard (MekhiPhifer).  Wade's conviction depends upon one woman's testimony: Diane Palmieri (Toni Collette), who's now marked for death by Peoples Hernandez (Jeffrey Wright), a city drug lord.

Shaft earned $107 million internationally, more than twice its $46 million budget.  The picture was nominated for an MTV Movie Award.
