Based on the public domain 1912 classic Edgar Rice Burrough’s novel ‘A Princess of Mars’, the film tells of the adventures of John Carter. In the Asylum production, John Carter is a modern-day US Army sniper in Afghanistan who finds himself teleported to Mars- ‘Barsoom’ to its residents- as opposed to the original 1912 novel’s premise of Carter being a Confederate veteran of the American Civil War, who goes prospecting in Arizona immediately after the war's end, and immediately hits gold. In both cases he finds himself in Barsoom with superhuman agility and the ability to leap immense distances- due to the difference in gravity between Earth and this planet.

Unintentionally, he finds himself caught up in the battle between the two races that rule the planet- the Green Martians and the Red Martians…

Which side will John Carter eventually take? And will the Princess (Traci Lords) have anything to do with his decision?
