When a disease begins taking children’s lives in New York City, biologist Remi ...

When a disease begins taking children’s lives in New York City, biologist Remi Panos (Alix Koromzay) investigates. Roaches are the disease’s primary carrier and Panos, along with her colleagues, engineer a new insect breed programmed to annihilate them. Her plan is successful, and the plague quickly disappears. Four years later Remi exchanges laboratories for classrooms and begins teaching at an inner-city public high school. Unbeknownst to her however, the genetically modified roaches have rapidly evolved into a human-sized species, capable of thought and thirsty for blood. They are also capable of shapeshifting, and transform themselves into exact replicas of their previous victims. A police detective named Klaski (Bruno Campos) has discovered a series of severely mutilated corpses throughout the city, each with its face ripped off. Every victim is somehow associated with Panos, making her a prime suspect in the case, even though Klaski doubts her involvement. Remi’s relationship to the creature’s fatalities is not a coincidental one: the roach is convinced that Panos is an ideal queen bee, and intends to impregnate the biologist by mimicking her inner circle of friends. Remi and her students: Sal Aguirre (Gaven E. Lucas) and Nicky (Will Estes) eventually face off against the mutant insect, during a bloody, terrifying showdown inside the school. Mimic 2 spawned yet another sequel, Mimic 3: Sentinel in 2003.
