The rise and premature end of a promising rock star's career.
Based on the real-life story of late 1950s teenage rocker Ritchie Valens (Lou Diamond Phillips), La Bambafollows the young star from his earliest days of poverty to his final days of glamour and fame. It also examines some of Valens' complicated personal relationships, such as Ritchie'sdealings with his jealous brother,Bob (Esai Morales). Romantic dilemmas also arise. Donna (Danielle von Zerneck), the girl who inspired Valens' first number one hit, faces immense pressure from her father to abandon Ritchie. For every blessing the young man encounters an equally devastating blow seems to soon follow.
La Bamba was nominated for a Golden Globe Award and earned $54 million at the box office.
