Mel Gibson depicts Thomas Craven, a detective anxious to reunite with his daughter Emma (Bojana Novakovic), an MIT graduate and scientist. Once Craven and Emma leave the airport and reach home, she becomes violently ill. When blood streams down her nose Thomas is alarmed, and immediately heads to the hospital. Before leaving their doorstep, however, an anonymous man calls out the detectives name; as Thomas looks up the man fires a shot at Emma, and she dies instantly.

Upon inspecting Emmas nightstand Craven discovers a handgun, indicating that she feared for her life. Further investigation reveals that the gun was registered to her boyfriend, David (Shawn Roberts). Thomas finds David and learns of his daughters secret life as an activist, and her intention to reveal a shady corporations dealings in nuclear arms. When the fictional corporation, Northmoor, learned about Emmas plans, she was targeted for assassination. Before being shot, however, Cravens daughter was poisoned by exposure to high levels of radiation. To cover their tracks, Northmoor attempted to fool authorities into believing Craven was the real target, and that Emma was killed mistakenly.

After it is clear that his daughters death was not by accident, and that the countrys security is at stake, Thomas begins to battle Northmoors thugs face to face. In this epic battle between good and evil there is no middle ground, and Carven must risk everything to seek justice even if it means his life.
