Two Lovers Enter a Town of Sociopaths Eden Lake: A Killer Weekend Getaway

Steve (Michael Fassbender) has convinced his girlfriend, Jenny (Kelly Reilly) to spend the weekend at a picturesque lake far away from the noise, traffic, and pollution that typifies city life. It is a romantic getaway void of modern conveniences such as running water, electricity, or cell phone coverage. It is also the perfect opportunity for Steve to propose to Jenny, and he has purchased an engagement ring just for the occasion.

While en route to their destination an overnight stay at a grungy motel sours the trip initially, but the lake's beauty causes them to forget the experience. Some teenagers are enjoying themselves on the otherwise unoccupied beach, blaring music that annoys Jenny and Steve, but not to a great extent. After a generally relaxing day the lovebirds close their tent and fall asleep underneath the starry sky.

In the morning Steve and Jenny begin to prepare breakfast, but are disappointed when they discover that insects have infested their food supply. Frustrated, but not angry, the pair gets dressed to grab breakfast at a local diner. The short trek into town comes to an abrupt end when a broken bottle punctures Steve's tire; the teenagers who departed yesterday night had left the bottle there intentionally. Luckily he has a spare, and exits the wooded area safely.

At the diner Steve questions a waitress about the kids, explained that they had flattened his tire, and wondered if she could identify them. Apparently she was one teenager's mother, who insisted that her son was innocent. A failed attempt to contact the other hooligans' parents infuriated the kids, who then returned to the lake for revenge.

Back at the beach Steve snorkels and Jenny sleeps underneath the warm sun. When he exits the water, however, all of the couple's belongings are missing, including their car keys, cell phone, and wallet. Worse yet, the teenagers stole Steve's jeep and use it to terrorize and chase the visitors through the woods. What was intended to be a blissful vacation suddenly morphs into absolute hell, conducted by the gang's ruthless leader: Brett (Jack O'Connell). This is a weekend that no one will forget.
