Set in nineteenth-century England, Heathcliff (Ralph Fiennes) is a gypsy who was adopted as a child by the wealthy Earnshaw family.  He formed an extremely close bond with his foster sister, Catherine (Juliette Binoche) though cultural norms forbade the two from marrying.  When she was forced to marry someone of her own class, Heathcliff fled the estate in sadness.

Years later Heathcliff returns.  He's exceptionally wealthy, and unquestionably angry.  Losing Catherine left him bitter, and now he's prepared to get even for the perceived injustices committed against him.
