ReginaLampert (Audrey Hepburn) has just returned to Paris after a skiing vacation in the French Alps. While away, she met a handsome man named Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) whom she intends to marry. First, however, Regina must divorce her current husband: Charles.
Before Regina can end her relationship with Charles though, police inform Lampert that he has been murdered. Even more astonishing, perhaps, she learns that Charles was not his real name, and that he stole $250,000 worth of gold during World War II. Now multiple characters believe Regina is hiding the cash, and will do anything to get it.
Charade was nominated for an Oscar and two Golden Globes. The picture earned $13 million in 1963, which when adjusted for inflation equals $94 million. It would later inspire the 2002 film The Truth About Charlie.
