The second in Oliver Stone’s trilogy on Vietnam, preceded by Platoon in 1986 and followed by Heaven & Earth in 1993. Ron Kovic a young man who loves his country, grew up in New York, and inspired by JFK and a lecture on the Marine Corps decided to join the marines eventually arriving in Vietnam. First his unit kills a village filled with civilians, then he mistakenly kills a fellow soldier during his daze, as he starts to lose touch with reality with the devastation and destruction they have to witness and create everyday. And with all the guilt he carries around Ron gets shot and paralyzed- whatever colors the flag in his proud dreams once held, they were all blood-red now…
