Beyoncé Knowles makes her acting debut as Foxxy Cleopatra, a rehash of 70s blaxploitation characters Cleopatra Jones and Foxy Brown, in the third installment of the Austin Powers series of films: Goldmember. Like before, Mike Myers portrays familiar characters Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, Fat Bastard, and a new character – Goldmember. Goldmember is an evil Dutchman whose name, a homage to 1995's James Bond flick GoldenEye, describes exactly what one might think it does. He also has an unflattering penchant for peeling off his own skin and eating it. After attempting to melt earth's polar ice caps and flood the planet, Dr. Evil and Mini Me (Verne Troyer) are imprisoned in two separate correctional facilities. Powers is subsequently knighted for saving the world, but saddened when his father, Nigel (Michael Caine) fails to attend the award ceremony. Further investigation reveals that Nigel was kidnapped by Goldmember and transported back to 1975. Austin travels to 1975 in search of Nigel, where he connects with FBI agent and former love interest Foxxy Cleopatra. Together they infiltrate a roller disco owned by Goldmember, then known by his given name, Johan van der Smut. While Foxxy and Austin do eventually find Nigel, his discovery only marks the beginning of another shagadelic adventure with potentially fatal consequences. The picture's soundtrack features performances by Knowles, The Rolling Stones, Diana King, Smash Mouth, Angie Stone and many more. It earned an MTV Movie Award in addition to Kids' Choice and Teen Choice Award nominations. Like its predecessors, Goldmember was a financial success, earning almost $300 million internationally – nearly five times its $63 million budget.
