When Danny and Debbie cross paths in a neighborhood Chicago bar, sparks fly and the two go home together for a night of non-committed sex. Inspired by David Mamet's play Sexual Perversity in Chicago, director Edward Zwick transforms the story of two singles who get into a relationship into this romantic and funny drama.

When Danny (Rob Lowe) and Debbie (Demi Moore) cross paths in a neighborhood Chicago bar, sparks fly and the two go home together for a night of non-committed sex. Yet somehow Debbie the advertising executive who was sleeping with her boss, and career professional Danny feel they want this to evolve into a real relationship. Each of them resorts to their best friend; Joan (Elizabeth Perkins), a bitter, single kindergarten teacher who's given up on ever meeting mister right, while Danny solicits the advice of Bernie (Jim Belushi) who offers no more than raunchy stories of his own sexual conquests. Can the pair move past the opinions of their friends and risk heartbreak by committing to each other?
