Following a man's search for perfection in a world where life rarely measures up to the idealized images one aspires, is what director Jake Paltrow introduces in his romantic comedy film The Good Night.

Following a man's search for perfection in a world where life rarely measures up to the idealized images one aspires, is what director Jake Paltrow introduces in his romantic comedy film The Good Night.

Martin Freeman plays Gary Shaller, who gained commercial success in previous years as a Guitarist in a pop band. However, seven years later, the band is no more and he pays the bills by composing mediocre music for commercials. What adds to his unhappiness is his relationship with his girlfriend, Dora (Paltrow), which comes to its end.

Depression overwhelmed Gary, until he meets Anna. She's beautiful, smart and funny. Best of all, she's crazy about Gary. But in fact, Anna is the girl of Gary's dreams. And that's the problem.

Gary can only see Anna in his dream life, so he's got to find a way to carry on the most satisfying relationship of his life, in his dreams.

His quest for lucid dreaming techniques introduces Gary to some crazy characters who ultimately give him a new perspective on life.

The film, which is also written by Jake Paltrow, is an adaptation of a 2006 French Film The Science of Sleep. It certainly has its share of laughs and feel good moments, but it also has some pretty dark undertones that one doesn't usually find in the romantic-comedy genre.

A wonderful cast was chosen. It includes Martin Freeman as Gary, Gwyneth Paltrow as Dora, Penlope Cruz as Anna, Danny DeVito as Mel, Simon Pegg as Paul.

The movie was released on October 5, 2007, with a run time of 93 minutes.
