Timecop is a science fiction thriller, based on a comic book series published by Dark Horse with the same name, and stars Jean-Claude Van Damme in what has been hailed as the best role of his career. In the year 2004, Max Walker (Van Damme) is still haunted by the memory of losing his wife, Melissa Walker (Mia Sara), ten years ago when some thugs raided their home and blew it up. Walker is an agent of the Time Enforcement Commission and he is further tormented by the fact that he works in an agency which could send him back to save his wife, though he knows that is against the TEC’s rules. The TEC was set up in 1994 after the development of a special micro-chip and is overseen by the up-and-coming Senator Aaron McComb (Ron Silver). Meanwhile, Walker is sent on a mission to capture an ex-partner of his who goes back to 1929 to exploit the stock market by buying bonds that would make him a millionaire in the future. However, while back in the past Lyle Atwood (Jason Schombing) confesses that he was sent back by Senator McComb to make him rich in order to fund his candidacy for president of the United Sates. In the present, 2004, McComb deduces that Atwood gave him up to Walker and begins a massive effort to do everything to shut down the TEC and control time travel for himself. Walker has to do everything he can to skip through time and bring McComb down. The film was released in September 1994 and reached the number one spot in its opening weekend and remained there for the following week to earn a gross profit in the US of over $44 million.
