John Truscott is sent to Sarawak in the 1930s, to hold government position, and help the Iban people. He reports to Henry Bullard who lives there with his wife. John is also facing a cultural shock of sort, getting used to the customs there. He is also given, Selima ( Jesica Alba) to be his “Sleeping dictionary”, meaning to sleep with him and teach him the Local language.

A budding romance starts between the two, a relation condemned by both the local elders and Bullard. But his love is too strong and he is determined to fight for it. Even if this means defying the orders…
