'The best film never to win an Oscar', eclipsed by the big winners of the year Forrest Gump and Pulp Fiction- The Shawshank Redemption is based on Stephen King's novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

Starting in 1947 and narrated by Freeman, Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) is sentenced to two life sentences back-to-back, for murdering his wife and her lover- a crime he says he didn't do. In Shawshank he meets 'Red' (Morgan Freeman), 'the man who can get you things' in this hellhole prison, run by megalomaniac, sadistic, Warden Norton (Bob Gunton)- who hides behind religion to get away with his crimes, aided by his top-dog officer Captain Hadley (Clancy Brown).

One of the youngest Vice-Presidents of a bank before his conviction, Andy quickly becomes an invaluable resource to the prison staff as a financial consultant, which gives him the chance to work on enriching the prison library, and the lives of his friends who have nothing but time...

A tale of hope and true friendship in the direst of times and darkest of places, and against all odds, it inspires the ability of the human spirit to overcome anything.
