Paulie is a freelance journalist on the verge of marrying his sweetheart, Sue (Brittany Murphy). Paulie is hesitant to seal the deal, however, fearing that he is only marrying Sue because she is five months pregnant.

Paulie is a freelance journalist on the verge of marrying his sweetheart, Sue (Brittany Murphy). Paulie is hesitant to seal the deal, however, fearing that he is only marrying Sue because she is five months pregnant.

This feeling is reinforced by his brother Jimbo, a childless drunk and frequent patron of local strip clubs, who is currently stuck in a fledgling marriage.

Meanwhile neighborhood pal T.C. returns after an eight-year hiatus. Town folklore suggests that he fled after stealing an expensive baseball card from Paulies cousin, Mike. Viewers discover T.C.s motivation was revenge rather than greed, and he reveals that he left town due to his closeted homosexuality.

Lastly there is Dez, the most stable of the five men. Dez owns and operates a small pub and supports his wife and two children. He remains obsessed with the guys old band, and hopes that they can reunite despite not playing an instrument in years. He passes his ambition for music down to his sons, pushing them to take guitar lessons and practice.

Together they have heartfelt discussions about old times, sprinkled with pearls of fatherly wisdom and accounts of their trials and tribulations. While the boys are out to play, their significant others are at home chit-chatting along similar lines and also relaying feminine know-how.

Through these series of emotionally charged conversations Paulie attempts to ensure that he is moving in the right direction.

With only days remaining until the wedding, Paulie must make a decision soon. When Sue learns of her fiancs uncertainty and his belief that he is merely following a dreary, but natural chain of inevitable events, she naturally becomes furious. Paulies uncertainty subsequently influences Sue, putting their upcoming ceremony in serious jeopardy.

This movie is rated R for pervasive language and brief nudity.
