Young David and Frank are friends and members of the same Baptist church in Atlanta aspiring to become ministers one day. But his faith is shaken when his mom dies in childbirth and he runs away from home. 15 years later, David has become a hot R&B artist and decides to return home to see his dad and help out the church, only it doesn't seem Frank is too happy about it...

Young David (Michael J. Pagan) and Frank (Sean Nelson) are friends and members of the same Baptist church in Atlanta, carrying a deep faith in Christ and aspiring to become ministers one day.

David seems set on his path, already a star vocalist with the church choir and son of the pastor, Bishop Taylor (Clifton Powell). But his faith is shaken when his mom dies in childbirth and he runs away from home.

15 years later, David (Boris Kodjoe) has become a hot R&B artist but learns that his father is ill and the church in dire financial straits, while Frank (Idris Elba) is readying himself to take over the flock.

In the middle of a spiritual crisis, David decides to return home to see his dad and help out the church, only it doesn't seem Frank is too happy about it...

The Gospel features musical contributions from a number of leading gospel artists, including Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and Yolanda Adams.
