On the verge of a breakthrough, eccentric scientist Seth Brundle explains to 'Particle' magazine reporter Veronica Quaife about his 'Telepods' which can teleport objects. His first attempt to teleport living creatures ends in disaster as the baboon used arrives in the second pod inside-out. With a stroke of inspiration Seth solves the problem, deciding to teleport himself- only he didn't notice that a common house fly had entered the pod with him...

Eccentric scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) is on the verge of a breakthrough as he explains to science magazine 'Particle' reporter Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis). Back at his house/ lab, he shows Veronica his 'Telepods' which allow the teleportation of objects across space between the two pods. His first experiment with trying to teleport living creatures ends in disaster as the baboon used arrives in the second pod inside-out. But with a stroke of inspiration Seth solves the problem, and pushes his experiment to unprecedented highs when he decides to teleport himself- only he didn't notice that a common house fly had entered the pod with him...
