The First Wives Club brings together an all-star female cast including Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler in a movie about the ultimate girl power as three divorcees take on their cheating and unloving ex-husbands.

Annie (Keaton), Brenda (Midler) and Elise (Hawn) attended college together, collectively graduating in 1969. Though the girls vowed to remain in touch for the remainder of their lives, they inevitably drifted apart. It was not until a close friends suicide that the three reunited, initially to grieve and reminisce, but ultimately to seek revenge.

Cynthia (Stockard Channing), their deceased friend recently learned that her husband was sleeping with another, much younger woman. To make matters worse, he just informed Cynthia that he would like a divorce, and plans to officially unite with his mistress. With a drink and cigarette in hand she leaps off the balcony of her swanky New York penthouse.

This scenario is all too familiar for the girls, all of whom are in their mid-40s and have been dumped by their husbands under similar circumstances. In retaliation they form The First Wives Club, a secretive organization whose mission is to seek justice against unfaithful men. With each others help they quickly gather dirt on their former hubbies, hoping to gain some of the mens wealth in the process.

But the ladies experience a change of heart when they question the morality of their actions. Do two wrongs make a right? Somehow they must drive a point home to the men without stooping to their level of indecency.

The First Wives club was nominated for an Oscar and raked in an impressive $181 million at box offices. With a mere budget of $30 million the picture quickly recuperated its expenses. Rumors of a sequel have surfaced throughout the years, though the actors and their studio have not been able to agree on an adequate salary. The films soundtrack features a number of female-empowering themes including Sisters Are Doin It For Themselves by the Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin. Other tracks are included from artists like Brownstone, M People, and Chantay Savage.

The picture is rated PG for thematic elements, some mild language, and sensuality.
