The story tells the exciting and often brutal tale of Buck, a dog who is stolen from his caring owner in California.

Buck is then sent to the Yukon, where he's forced into service as a sled dog by his new and violent masters.

Life within the dog pack is harsh and lonely for Buck until he is traded to John Thornton, a kind man who becomes his master and best friend.

The bond between Buck and Thornton is sealed when each saves the other's life.

But as Buck gets older, his natural instincts grow stronger and now he must decide between staying Thornton or answering the call of the wild.
