(mbc.net) When a young Martin Asher decides to take a bus to Canada, he meets  another teen, Matt Soulsby, and when the bus breaks down, they decide to rent a car together. As Matt is changing the flat tire, Martin exclaims how they are roughly the same height and in a flash pushes Matt in front of an oncoming speeding truck. Martin simply turns his back on the carnage he has created, picks up Matt's guitar and starts singing the songs Matt was performing earlier. Twenty years later and FBI profiler has picked up Martin's trail, his mother seems sure that she has spotted him in Quebec, at the same time there seems to be a witness to Martin's latest killing; an art dealer called James Costa...

FBI profiler Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) is called on by friends in Canadian law enforcement to help crack Martin Asher's whereabouts and tighten the noose on this psychopath with crimes spanning decades. Asher has been killing his victims for years and then assuming their identities to be able to move freely across North America.

Their only break, other than Asher's mom being sure that she spotted him in Quebec, is an arts salesman who claims to have witnessed Asher's latest crime. The arts dealer, James Costa (Ethan Hawke) draws a portrait of the presumed Asher, and this leads to Illeana busting in on an empty apartment apparently recently vacated by Asher. She notices that the walls are covered with pictures and research on James Costa, deducing that Costa will become Asher's next victim...

Will Illeana manage to save Costa from this psychopath who slips into the skin and lives of his victims? Or has someone been sending them chasing red herrings?
