Ta Ra Rum Pum stars Bollywood heartthrob Saif Ali Khan and actress Rani Mukerji and mixes elements from films such as Days of Thunder and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby in a bid to entertain fans of both Indian and American cinema.

Rajveer Singh, played by Khan, is an American-born Indian taxi driver with a lazy disposition and no interest in higher education but Rajveers great dream is to become a professional race car driver and he is convinced he has what it takes to succeed.

As luck would have it he is snatched up by the all-Indian fictional racing team Racing Saddles and quickly becomes NASCARs number one driver, winning more than fifty races over the duration of eight years.

Meanwhile in a love twist, Rajveer, nicknamed RV by his manager and fans, has been infatuated with Radhika (Mukerji) since his days of poverty and luckily for him she also felt similarly about him, despite her fathers disapproval. Radhika was born into a wealthy family, is a skilled pianist and was a student of music at Columbia University when she met Rajveer.

After RV becomes successful Radhika decides to quit school and become a fulltime housewife. She also decided her love for RV outweighed inheriting her familys fortune and marries him resulting in her family disowning her.

After purchasing a beautiful mansion, birthing two children and truly living the American dream misfortune strikes the Singhs as a near fatal crash decommissions RV for an entire year and a persistent fear of death stifles his thirst for fame, making him afraid to reach the speeds necessary for victory.

RV looses race after race when his manager, Harry (Jaaved Jaffrey), decides to drop him. The following months would put Radhikas commitment to Rajveer to the test: money was non-existent, their mansion had to be sold and it was becoming increasingly difficult to put food on the table.

The Singhs children, Priya (Angelina Idnani) and Ranveer (Ali Haji) notice their parents are struggling with cash and attempt to save money by putting aside their daily lunch money. While Priya is able to endure lunchtime starvation, Ranveer is not, resulting in him eating from trashcans every day at noon.

Ranveer eventually falls ill that runs up a $65,000 hospital bill that the impoverished family can not afford to pay.

Throughout all of these trials and tribulations Radhika remembers her fathers prediction that she would be forced to return home one day, and that Rajveer was born a loser. Sadly, her dad may have been right.

Ta Ra Rum Pum proved to be successful in both Indian and foreign theaters, earning the distinction of being the eighth highest grossing Bollywood film of 2007.
