Mirabelle has left her reserved parents back in Vermont to go work in Saks Fifth Avenue in LA working behind a counter selling gloves. Her life for the most part is mundane, except the large amounts of antidepressants shes on and debt shes in.

One day love comes to her wearing the socially inept guise of Jeremy who confesses that he will give her everything hes got, which isnt much.

Ray Porter on the hand has got his own hands in just about anything Mirabelle wants. He flowers Mirabelle with dresses and expensive gifts, but tells her he cant promise her any kind of commitment, though it shows that she heard different.

This is all happening while Jeremy is on the road with a rock-n-roll band listening to self help tapes on how to better approach the opposite sex. When he returns, he seems like the more appealing choice to Mirabelle over Ray, who wont give her exclusivity, especially after confessing to sleeping with an ex-girlfriend.

Mirabelle ventures up the path many girls who recently graduated now walk into adulthood. She has to make a choice between Ray, living by the code that my ultimately be self-serving but obligates him to act like a true gentlemen, and Jeremy, who seems altogether feral and oblivious to the expectations that make up society.
