Because of her German ancestry, Linda Voss (Melanie Griffith), hired as a translator to a few-worded lawyer, begins to suspect that Mr. Ed (Michael Douglas) is hiding a secret. As soon as the US declares it is formally joining the allies in WW II, Ed is revealed to be a colonel in the OSS. When they lose an agent in Berlin and have to find a replacement immediately, Linda convinces Ed that she is good for it- despite her spy experience being limited to film.

She is placed in the hands of the spy master known only as ‘Sunflower’ (John Gielgud) who in turn entrusts her to Margrete (Joely Richardson), an agent for the allies. Though Margrete places her as a cook in a small-time Nazi officer’s home, her first dinner being a disaster, fate has it that she is taken as a nanny for the children of an extremely influential Nazi officer, Franze-Otto Dietrich (Liam Neeson)…
