The story is set in the mid 80’s on the eve of the infamous challenger disaster, it follows Campbell Babbit (Steeve Coogan) as a reporter who’s already having some emotional troubles in his own life, when he is sent to Concord, New Hampshire to cover the buzz around the historical launch of the challenger mission, where a teacher Christa McAuliffe at the local school there is part of the Challenger crew. Once there he calls an old high school friend who happens to teach at the local high school, only to discover an apparent suicide. Shaken and saddened he decides to get in touch with his old friend’s students. He is met by a group of misfits’ outcast group of students, led by the narcissistic seductress (Hilary Duff), a repressed voyeur (Josh Peck), and a scheming pregnant teen (Olivia Thirlby). He is shocked by what he find, expecting to meet a group, stricken by sadness for the loss, or just a hint of emotion, and decides He can help them reconnect with something. However in a gradual reversal of roles, Babbitt soon finds himself learning from this unusual group of kids.
