Cooking show creators Paul and Hannah are a loving couple approaching their 40th anniversary. Despite 40 years of marriage the two must confront an affair that occurred 25 years prior.

Cooking show creators Paul and Hannah are a loving couple approaching their 40th anniversary. Despite 40 years of marriage the two must confront an affair that occurred 25 years prior.

Trent, an architect in a relationship with theatre director, Meredith. There�s also Roger and Gracie; Gracie is carrying on an affair with her lover, Roger in a high rise hotel room.

Meanwhile, her husband Hugh wonders why Gracie is suddenly uninterested in him. Viewers get to learn more about Hugh in series of bathroom conversation with a drag queen and two other women.

Mark is dying of AIDS; as he endures his final moments on earth he shares a number of touching moments with his mother, Mildred.

Joan is a club hopper who becomes enthused with Keenan. Throughout their meetings Joan is perplexed as to why Keenan fails to respond to her romantic cues.

Together each couple ponders the meaning of love and relationships and eventually reaches the conclusion that despite love�s ups and downs, one should never give up.

The picture does not have a plot per-se � but it is heavily driven by dialogue and emotions, drawing on the experiences of its viewers.

�Playing by Heart� was generally well received by critics. Its soundtrack features the likes of Bonnie Raitt and Moby.
