Superstar musician, actor and comedian, Eddie Murphy, plays multiple characters, including the outrageous and supersized Rasputia Latimore, an overweight, overbearing and frighteningly aggressive woman who marries Norbit, a skinny, geeky, meek and generally innocent man.

The movie begins in 1967 when Norbits mother abandoned her son by throwing him out of a car window at the steps of the Golden Wonton, a dual-purpose orphanage and Chinese restaurant owned and operated by Murphys third character in the film, Mr. Wong. Upon discovering the baby Mr. Wong is convinced that he is far too ugly for anyone else to adopt and raises Norbit in the orphanage/restaurant.

Things are not all bad though. He grows up alongside fellow orphan Kate Thomas who befriends the boy; Norbit develops a crush on Kate and both serve as the others protector for a period of time. Unfortunately Kate is eventually adopted by a family and says farewell to the orphanage, leaving the pathetic and wimpy child to fend for himself. Immediately after Kates departure bullies unmercifully beat and taunt Norbit. He is rescued, however, by then teenage Rasputia, a female brute that even the playgrounds toughest boys fear.

Against Norbits will, and partially out of necessity the two become boyfriend and girlfriend, then soon husband and wife. Yet he still cannot forget his childhood sweetheart, Kate. Years later Norbit may have one last chance to win her back but not without living under the constant fear and surveillance of his dreadful wife.

Norbits disdain for Rasputia stretches far beyond her lack of physical beauty or womanly demeanor: her three thug brothers are planning to purchase the Golden Wonton and transform it into a gentlemens club, leaving dozens of children homeless. With Kates help though the nerdy underdog may finally save the day and win the woman of his dreams.

The films soundtrack features a heavy dose of contemporary pop and hip-hop favorites. Artists present include Yung Joc, Kelis, Unk and many more.

Norbit is rated PG-13 for crude and sexual humor, some nudity and harsh language.
