Nick O'Leary (Michael Cera) has just been dumped by his cold-hearted ex-girlfriend, Tris (Alexis Dziena). He repeatedly calls and begs for her forgiveness, and sends stacks of mix CDs to her doorstep. Ultimately, the discs end up in Tris' waste bin.

Norah Silverberg (Kat Dennings), one of Tris' acquaintances and an unspoken foe, regularly rummages through her trash to recover the CDs. Although she does not know Nick, Norah enjoys the mixes and their cover art, continuously wondering who their mysterious creator is.

Caroline (Ari Graynor), a hopeless alcoholic, is friends with both girls. Together the three bounce between different Manhattan indie rock clubs to locate their favorite band, 'Where's Fluffy.' At the first club all three girls are enjoying themselves, but when Tris teases Norah about her single status she grabs the first man she sees, kisses him, and claims him as her boyfriend.

That man happens to be Nick, who unbeknownst to Norah has just broken up with Tris. Despite an awkward meeting, Nick and Norah have a clear chemistry together; he is also a fan of Where's Fluffy, and joins Norah's scavenger hunt after his performance. Before the quest can resume, however, a heavily intoxicated Caroline needs taken home -- if only they can find her.

The night's antics continue as Nick's dilapidated bright yellow Yugo crisscrosses the town, at one point being mistaken for a taxi. His gay bandmates, Thom (Aaron Yoo) and Dev (Rafi Gavron) also join the search. Things get heated when Norah's boy toy friend, Tal (Jay Baruchel) bumps into the gang, ready to pounce Nick for supposedly stealing Norah from him.

Soundtrack includes a long list of indie rock groups along with more mainstream artists like Dusty Springfield, Billy Joel, the Spice Girls, and Modest Mouse. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist earned an MTV Movie Award nomination and three Teen Choice Award nominations. The film more than tripled its $10 million budget, earning $33.5 million at the box office, excluding home video sales and rentals.
