Oscar-winning Legends of the Fall is a movie about the heart wrenching tale of three brothers who live with their father in the wilderness of 1900s USA and have their lives affected by war, nature, history and most of all undying love.

Tristan, Samuel and Alfred Ludlow all live with their father Colonel William Ludlow, a veteran of the nineteenth century Indian-American wars, and the Colonels most trusted friend, a Native-American known as One Stab.

After serving most of his life in the United States military, primarily fighting against the lands native inhabitants, the Colonel became disenchanted with what he perceived to be war merely for the sake of greed and imperialism. Throughout his later years the Colonel attempted to repent for the wrong he committed as a solider, and devoted himself to pacifism.

With that in mind the Colonel was particularly disturbed when Tristan insisted, primarily in the name of patriotism and courage, to fight in World War I. At the same time Samuel returns to the ranch after completing his studies at Harvard, bringing along his lovely fiance Susannah Fincannon. Susannah unwillingly becomes an attraction of Tristan and Alfred, though she herself slowly develops feelings for Tristan in particular.

When Samuel and Alfred discover that Tristan is headed to Europe for war, they reluctantly join him in fear of his safety, and out of their mutual loyalty. Unfortunately Samuel is killed in combat and the remaining two brothers eventually return to Montana.

Susannah, now widowed and lonesome slowly falls in love with Tristan, much to Alfreds dismay. Yet Tristan is constantly haunted by the death of Samuel, and his failure to protect his life; this puts enormous strain on the couples relationship and it ultimately ends.

Now only the Colonel, Alfred, and Susannah remain. One may assume that after extreme agony nothing worse could occur, however this juncture in the Ludlows life may be the most turbulent and stressing of all.

Legends of the Fall is rated R for violence and for some sexuality and language.
