Around one million people were slaughtered in just three months in 1994 [over 20% of the country’s population], when the Hutu began their genocide of the Tutsis of Rwanda…

After being ousted from power by the rebellion of 1959-62, the minority Tutsis who had ruled for centuries organized the Rwandan Patriotic Front [R.P.F.] attacking the north with the help of Uganda, while the Hutus killed Tutsis in the south. A ceasefire took effect in 1993 with the Hutu government of Habyarimana. However, Hutus began their mass elimination against the Tutsis, as well as any pro-peace Hutus who were deemed ‘traitors’ or ‘anti-patriots’, following Habyarimana’s assassination on April 9 1994. Midst all the mayhem, Paul, a Hutu, tries to use any and all of his amassed political capital as well as bribes to protect his wife Tatiana, a Tutsi, as well as all those in need of refuge from the massacre sheltering them in the luxury hotel he manages in Kigali, as the world looks on and does nothing…
