Flown from Crete to Vietnam to help boost troop morale with his flare as a disc jockey with a deep bag of comic antics and unconventional news delivery, crazy DJ Adrian Cronauer (played by Robin Williams) is wildly popular with the troops in no time, yet, however, his superiors don't think of him as kindly.

In 1965, at the height of the massacres in Vietnam, Cronauer transforms the Armed Forces Radio Service with his unique brand of comedy on his early AM show. Yet as the war starts to seep through to Cronauer, as his audience grows smaller when they never return from the jungle, or when he witnesses a terrorist attack, or even more personally through his love for a local Vietnamese woman, sure enough the war he sees starts to make its way to his show- a situation that gives his superiors the leverage they need to remove him from the airwaves...
