One Mans Destiny Lies In The Hands Of Two Morons Can The Countrys Dumbest Duo Save The Day?

Jim Carrey burst onto the scene in the early 1990s when he debuted on the hit television sketch show In Living Color (1990-94). Any regular viewer could guess, with near certainty, that Carrey would soon take his talents to an even higher level.

That started to become true, and perhaps one of his most memorable early cinematic performances was in 1994s Dumb and Dumber, released just at the end of his small screen stint. Carrey portrayed Lloyd Christmas in the picture, an unintelligent limo driver with a knack for losing jobs. His roommate Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels) is equally unintelligent, and has just spent his entire savings on a customized van, molded to resemble an unintentionally hideous looking sheepdog.

Harrys decision to blow his money on van customization occurred at a very unfortunate time. Since both Harry and Lloyd are jobless, they are on the run from bill collectors and facing eviction. However Lloyd has an idea.

Before losing his job as a limo driver Lloyd transported a beautiful lady named Mary (Lauren Holly) to the airport. Mary left behind a suitcase whose contents were unknown, but presumably important. While Lloyd does his utmost to return the suitcase to Mary, attempting to run side by side with the airplane as it takes off, he inevitably fails, returns home, and ponders his next move.

While at home the two roommates hear a knock at the door, assume that it is either their landlord or bill collectors and jump out of the back window to escape. However the men at the door were not bill collectors but Nicholas Andre (Charles Rocket) and Joe 'Mental' Mentalino (Mike Starr), two extortionists desperately seeking the contents of Marys briefcase.

In debt and unemployed the boys decide that a road trip is in order. Lloyd, still infatuated with Mary recollects from their brief conversation that she was en route to Aspen, Colorado. Soon afterward Harry and Loyd board the dogmobile and set off for Colorado. Yet with two guys this stupid even the most well-intentioned plan is bound to go awry. Along the way the pair will be trailed by the two gangsters, evade an overly suspicious police officer, and nearly avoid fisticuffs with a group of redneck truckers. To make things worse they do not even know Marys last name or where she lives in Aspen.

Not to spoil the movie for viewers, but things do eventually work out for the two simpletons in a strangely demented and hilarious way. The picture was no slouch at the box office earning an astonishing $246 million worldwide. Dumb and Dumber won two MTV Movie Awards and was nominated for another.

The pictures runtime is 107 minutes. It is rated PG-13 for off-color humor.
