Robin Williams portrays 'Rainbow Randolph' Smiley, a zany children's television host busted for exploiting the parents of young boys and girls who appear on his show. The scandal ruins the entertainer's career, and he slips into a deep spell of depression. He is replaced by Sheldon Mopes (Edward Norton) and his character, Smoochy the Rhino.

Randolph becomes obsessed with ending Smoochy's career, though his new manager, Burke Bennett (Danny DeVito) might actually be the rhino's most dangerous enemy. Stokes books Mopes to perform at a fraudulent charity event, inadvertently involving him in organized crime. When Sheldon refuses to participate, Bennett and criminal pal Merv Green (Harvey Fierstein) plan revenge.

Meanwhile Rainbow continues conspiring against Smoochy, eventually tricking him into performing at a neo-Nazi rally. The media labels him a racist and yet another children's entertainer is disgraced -- or at least for a while. With conniving show producers, gangsters, and demented clowns hungry for his blood can Smoochy possibly survive? And can Smiley somehow revive his career?

Soundtrack features the work of famed film composer David Newman, in addition to tunes from Jackie Wilson, Dean Martin, and Liza Minnelli.
