The picture is set in the wealthy Beverly Hills section of Los Angeles and focuses not only on the superficiality of a private high schools social cliques, but the underlying comedy of teen life and its pursuits.

Our main character is Cher Horowitz, the daughter of a high profile attorney who lives in a mansion complete with servants. School is not her primary interest, however she tends to win A grades by, as she puts it, making her teachers happy.

This is not an easy task when she encounters her debate teacher, Mr. Hall who demands a genuine effort.

At home she lives with her ex-stepbrother Josh, a liberal, socially conscious college student who persistently berates Cher for her snobbery. In an attempt to prove him wrong, and illustrate her selflessness Cher collaborates with best friend Dionne to makeover an unfashionable new arrival at school, Tai Fraiser.

The girls good deed will not only involve improving Tais looks, but also her social status and attitude. As a side project Cher plans to hookup hardnosed teachers Mr. Hall and Miss Geist and consequently earn her A by making them happy.

Dionne and Chers plan goes haywire when the sleeping beauty transforms into a monster, outdoing the schools two most popular girls in both status and snobbery.

Meanwhile Tai hones in on Josh as a love interest, creating an uneasy feeling that Cher cannot quite pinpoint. While Dionne and Tais love lives seem to be blossoming hers has hit a dead end: the boy she has spent weeks trying to impress turns out to be gay.

Clueless was filmed in 40 days on a mere $20 million budget. Not only did it wow critics and audiences alike, it managed to nearly quadruple its earnings and rake in $77 million in ticket sales.

The picture achieved cult status and is a favourite in the teen comedy genre, though its appeal spans far wider generations. The soundtrack features 90s familiars such as Radiohead, Beastie Boys, and Luscious Jackson.

This movie is rated PG-13 for sex related dialogue and some teen use of alcohol and drugs.
