In an attempt break Frank away from his monotonous routine his wife Susan decides to set his clock 10 minutes forward, in a bid to show him that his world would not crumble if thrown slightly out of sync. Unfortunately Susan was wrong, and the day proves to be the worst in Franks life.

The trouble starts as soon as Frank leaves his house. First he misses the ferry, by mere minutes, to a speaking engagement; although he eventually manages to arrive he is thrown out of sync, triggering a domino effect, which soon plunges him into absolute hysteria.

Just as Frank think s his bad day is coming to an end he has a car accident with Nancy, a pregnant woman in labor and rushing to the hospital. Frank immediately rushes Nancy to the hospital where he waits as she is in labor. At one point a nurse hands him some papers to sign and a tired and stressed out Frank unknowingly signs off as the babys father.

Before he returns home the next morning, Susan receives a call from the hospital and is presumed by the person on the phone to be Nancy. When the nurse tells her about the baby, who Frank is supposedly the father of, Susan immediately assumes that he has been sleeping with another woman. Shortly after hanging up, Frank returns home, and is promptly thrown out of the house.

After events unravel that indicate Susans past is not absolutely spotless, Frank takes a new approach to life. Rather than consulting his index cards in an obsessive manner he decided to take a gamble on life and shuffles them, adds in whimsical activities and tries an entirely random life.

Ultimately, the organizational maniac must realize that perfection lies somewhere between order and chaos.
