Jay Bulworth is a Democrat disillusioned by his party's compromises to conservative demands.

Beatty's character is tired of both politics and life in general.

He secures a $10 million life insurance policy and makes his daughter the sole benefactor, and then hires a hit man to snuff him.

While waiting, Bulworth consumes massive amounts of alcohol and refuses to sleep; his behavior becomes completely unhinged, and he speaks the truth.

Bulworth's bluntness earns him new found public support, and flirting with hip-hop culture gives the senator a reason to live.

Unfortunately, the hit cannot be canceled easily.
