Newlyweds Jeff (Kurt Russell) and Amy Taylor (Kathleen Quinlan) are starting a new life, which includes leaving their home in Massachusetts for a new home in California. When they get driven-off the road by a bumbling Earl (MC Gainey), they think nothing of it. But a short while after stopping at a gas station their jeep brakes down, and trucker ‘Red’ (J.T. Walsh) who gives Amy a ride to the diner a few miles down, pretends he’d never set eyes on the Taylors when Jeff catches up with him at the diner a few hours later, after he gets the ‘tampered-with’ motor running again. Besides ‘Red’, everyone else feigns non-recognition and pretend to never having seen Amy.

Jeff begins to understand that a lot of people disappear along this specific stretch. Now that his wife has been abducted, he needs to find out where she is and why…
