Nicole Kidman portrays Lady Sarah Ashley, an English aristocrat who has traveled to Australia intending to persuade her cheating husband to sell his unprofitable ranch.  Shortly after arriving, Ashley discovers her husband has been murdered, and that she has inherited his vast estate.

Drover (Hugh Jackman) helps the Lady move the ranch's cattle to a presumably safer location. During this time she has the opportunity to bond with Nullah (Brandon Walter), an aboriginal boy whose mother drowns while trying to escape ruthless authorities.  Together, the three fight against Neil Fletcher (David Wenham), a rival rancher who seeks to steal Ashley's property.

Australia was nominated for an Oscar and three Teen Choice Awards.  It earned $211 million at theaters internationally, easily exceeding its $130 million budget.
