In 1885, the Mousekewitzes, a Jewish-Russian family of mice have to escape their homeland to America because of the persecution brought on by the Czarist cats. Fievel Mousekewitz (voiced by Phillip Glasser) is thrown overboard during a storm that hits the boat and his family are heartbroken thinking they have lost their youngest son forever.

However, Fievel floats to New York in a bottle and receives guidance from Henri the pigeon (voiced by Christopher Plummer), and to his dismay discovers that cats exist in America too, as he begins his quest to find his family. As he searches for his family he makes a lot of new friends, and has a great idea of how to start a rebellion against the gang of cats, the Mott Street Maulers, who are terrorizing the mice of New York. Filled with amazing music, including Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt's 'Somewhere Out There', An American Tail is a heart-warming tale that will captivate the whole family.
